My business partner and I tend to think alike, that’s why I’m totally stealing his idea for a blog post and counting down my favourite 5 tunes from Pokémon!
Pokémon is a series with plenty of fantastic music to choose from and there are so many tracks I could list here. I could even break them up into categories like “good relaxing music” and “good battle music” but I’ve opted to just whip out my top 5. Here goes…
5. Icirrus City (Black & White)
I’m pretty much in love with any music that sounds Celtic by origin. Icirrus City’s folksy summer number gives the city a rustic charm, it’s like sending your ears on holiday to the Scottish Highlands. I was also a huge fan of the Phantom Hourglass / Spirit Tracks games on Nintendo DS, and this tune brought back great memories of exploring the vast worlds in those two games.
4. Kanto Trainer Battle (Crystal)
I had a hard time choosing between the wide range of Kanto battle themes and their remixes. The gym leader theme is one of my favourites, but it’s just beaten by the rendition of the Kanto trainer theme from Pokémon Crystal. The way the notes are drawn out and lazily “flow” into each other makes this theme so easy to listen to.
3. Lake Verity, Valour & Acuity (Platinum)
I’m actually upset at the lack of things there are to do at each lake in Sinnoh. The music of the lakes is beautifully relaxing and sometimes I used to just fly to a lake and leave my DS running so I could listen to the melody… Alas, all you could do after the game’s main story line was over was catch the lake guardians and do a spot of fishing.
2. Rival Battle (Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire)
BRING ON THE TRUMPETS. The original version of this theme from Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald was pretty cool, but Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire kicked it up a notch. The open little jingle teases the ears and then, Bam! The brass section kicks in and you know you’ve got a battle on your hands. I insist on using this music in ORAS’s battle facilities and online battles. It’s just too good.
And now, drum roll….
1. Frontier Brain (Platinum)
Yes! It’s time for some post-game fun with Pokémon Platinum. This game is the one on which I have racked up the most time in all my Pokémon journeys. The post-game area, including the five sections of the battle frontier, was absolutely amazing. The arcade was my favourite area and, when you come up against a frontier brain, you almost want the battle to last forever. Those DING-DONG bells were reminiscent of battles in Pokémon Stadium 2, hinting at the release of HGSS just before their time had come.
Well, that’s my top 5 tunes, what are yours? Be sure to let me know on Twitter. 🙂
